All,
Callaway has a few questions on Remote monitoring:
1) Are you using remote monitoring technology to eliminate or enhance portions of your routine survey program? Yes.
a. If so:
i. In what capacity are you using this technology? As justification to decrease the frequency of routine surveys.
ii. Have you seen a decrease in RP personnel radiation exposure due to reduced survey time/frequency versus set-up and maintenance of the equipment? Yes.
iii. What hurdles have you had to overcome with this implementation? Response check methodology. Dose rate variations in the uR/hr range. Known plant transients that cause response check failures and failed surveys.
2) What Remote Monitoring Software and Remote Monitoring Detection devices are you utilizing? Thermo Viewpoint telemetry. DCPP Electronic Survey Program (ESP), Mirion RDS-31-iTx and GMP-12GSD probes.
a. Why are you using this instead of other applications/devices? We have used ESP since it's deployment in 2008. We are shutting down and IT is also very restrictive about any new software initiatives so we are staying with Thermo Viewpoint. We had available funding so we chose RDS-31-iTX w/GMP-12GSD probes. They perform very well in low dose rate areas (uR/hr) as opposed to dosimeters and they are very easy to configure and deploy as the WRM2 radio is built into the RDS31.
3) What was the cost of initial implementation of your remote monitoring program? Significant (e.g. $$$$ restaurant). We estimate that this will eventually help us reduce 2 FTE C&RP Technicians.
