From North Anna,
We use a high risk RWP for surveying under vessel area or keyway to down post from a VHRA to HRA and have RP supervisor on tag out of incore drive system to prevent changes in dose rates. Then work in keyway is performed on a RWP that is not high rad risk. The same goes for our reactor cavity after shutdown VHRA posting removed and down posted to allow use of non-high risk RWPs.

Subject: [External] [Global] Reclassification of High-Risk Radiological Work
Team:
Questions:
1. Has any station re-classified high-risk radiological work to medium or low risk? If so, what work was re-classified and what was the basis for re-classification?
2. Has any station re-classified work on BWR TIP drive areas, PWR incore detectors, or undervessel areas from high-risk?
Background:
INPO 05-008, “Radiological Protection at Nuclear Power Stations”, Section II, “Radiation Dose Control (RP.2)”, contains discussions on controls stations should use during the course of work involving radiological controls. Criteria RP.2-4 discusses high-risk work activities. In one section of RP.2-4, 05-008 mentions reclassification of high-risk work as medium or low radiological risk once, “…initial surveys are complete and protective controls are established and validated…”.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
Respectfully,
Felix Martinez
