Good morning everyone,
Salem is getting ready to do some MSIP work on the cold legs in the coming outages. We are being challenged by our Rx Services and Projects group to see if we can remove the "sandboxes" for good.
We are looking to still use the metal covers and seals to prevent contam, but I am being told that removing the actual sandboxes would be a time saver. All of our evaluation show that there is no requirement for those to be left other than to reduce dose/streaming during operation. The drawings I can find state that the "inspection plugs" are filled with either limonite or colemanite.
Have any other utilities removed the sandboxes permanently?
If you have, have you noticed a difference in streaming during online entries?
Thanks,
Jen Tutterow
