At the Bruce we track hotspots in a dedicated database and monitor them routinely via our routine survey program (with long reach survey meters and robotics). Each hot spot is identified in the station with an approved tag. They are prioritized for shielding/removal
based on magnitude and probability of exposure. Where possible we put these hot spots on the station plan for removal but that is not always possible or practical. Flushing is always the first attempt in removal then physical pipe/component replacement.
Often, we utilize our in-house 3D printed tungsten shielding for these as it offers the greatest shielding efficiency by reducing the weight to an absolute minimum. Recently we have purchased an elaborate ultrasonics kit for hot spot removal but are currently
stalled due to engineering concerns. If anyone out there has any advice on that hurdle, we would love to hear from you. Feel free to contact me directly for further discussion. </div>
