Subject: [Global] Question for PWR's
Security Notice: Please be aware that this email was sent by an external sender.
Calvert Cliffs has plans to reduce the level of zinc in the Reactor Coolant System from a target level of 8 to 12 ppb to a new target of 4 to 6 ppb. This change is due to a study showing that Calvert Cliffs has a fully formed zinc film on the RCS piping. Reducing the RCS zinc level is designed to save the cost of additional zinc without having any impact on source term.
1. Has your plant lowered the levels of zinc for the reactor coolant system (RCS)?
2. Was there any change in source term following this change?
3. Did you take any additional Radiation Protection Actions (additional area monitors, pipe scans, etc.. ) to monitor the RCS or connected systems for dose rate changes?
Any information you can share with us on this matter will be most appreciated.
Thank You and Stay Safe!
