Davis-Besse assigns a technician per shift to scaffold work. That technician handles the briefings and covers the work. More emphasis is placed on initial scaffold builds in dose significant areas (i.e. pointing out hot spots, higher dose areas, and low dose areas for workers). Our scaffold crews are mostly repeat workers and have done a good job at developing good ALARA practices such as minimizing crew size and maximizing work that can be done in lower dose areas.

Subject: [External] [Global] Scaffold Dose
Was wondering how you all coordinate scaffold builds and removals with regard to minimizing dose to crews. At Surry, all scaffold build crews are briefed by ALARA to include photos of area and dose rates. General recommendations on limiting crew size in higher dose areas...etc. We do not have a dedicated tech to provide coverage. The rover provides support for the scaffold crews.
Do you have a dedicated RP Tech to support scaffold work during outages? If so, do they manage all the briefings as well? Also, if you have a dedicated tech, does it reduce dose and improve productivity?
Thanks!
