[Global] Outage Dose Communication Tool(s)

We use several tools here at Sequoyah.

SQN has a page in the daily plant report that shows our estimated vs actual dose up to the most recent midnight. This shows dose for the previous day as well as dose total for the outage. Additionally, the page shows the top 5 ALARA Plans for the previous day and the dose estimate for the upcoming day.

SQN ALARA sends out a daily midnight email. This email goes to the RP department plus a few key outage members (and anyone else who asks to be included). The email explains the why the dose was above/below the estimate (ie- RFF delays setting the Rx Head, added scope on a major valve breach, etc). This email also includes ongoing/upcoming activities that are radiologically significant. This encourages RP control points to reach out to shops to plan significant upcoming work.

SQN ALARA interacts with each shop every 2-4 days to discuss ALARA Plan status and get data about how jobs are going. We’ve noticed that having an ongoing conversation with shop leads keeps dose and exposure on their minds and leads to more conversation within the shop about dose reduction potential. This encourages shops to reach out to RP control points to plan significant upcoming work. When a significant job goes well, ALARA has swag we give to the crew that did well.

Each control point has a display that shows all the workers that are logged in on transmitting dosimetry. The primary purpose is to allow RP/workers to verify transmission prior to entering the RCA. A secondary benefit is that workers and RP can all see dose being accrued in real time.

A tool that has not been implemented here, but is on our radar, is to have a screen at the RCA exit that displays the top 5-10 dose jobs for the last 24 hours. This screen will update every 5-10 seconds, which will give workers exiting the RCA the opportunity to observe how their dose has directly affected the performance of their job or plant in general.

Thanks,

Hello,

Millstone is looking to see what tools your station uses to communicate dose to folks during the outage? How does your station make individuals aware of the dose they accumulated per job, etc.?

Thank you,

Erin S Stalnecker
