Team,

Great response...Thanks to all.

I know I'm not alone when in say good luck to Bobby and Bill at Oconee in advancing the principals of ALARA during their upcoming outage!

Maybe you guys can give a presentation at the next RP-ALARA Association meeting on your success. Not just on the setting of the Rx head remotely but how you were able "work with" (i.e. convince) your Reactor Services group on the use of technology!

Here are the results to the question so far:

Head is set remotely to about 18 inches, then entrants do final flange clean /inspect.

Oconee

looking to do it for the first time this outage without people in the cavity using a new "SPOT" robot.

North Anna

*

to aid the crew they fly a drone in the cavity prior to entering to get a visual alignment of the jack shafts on the upper internals so the crew know if any of them need adjustment

They have challenged the vendor to do it remotely, but they refuse.

BWD and BYR both set RX with no one in containment except crane operator and then a couple RX services individuals on ropes controlling the set. All done on head sets and cameras.

Calvert Cliffs

They use both cameras and people in the cavity while setting the Rx Head

Catawba

Millstone

Has people in the cavity and use a camera in limited capacity. They are looking at using a drone and in the future (hoping it's "SPOT").

Subject: Setting your Reactor Head

Hello Team,

Sorry for asking this repeat question, because I know it has come up several times over the years.

Who is able to set their Reactor Head remotely using cameras, and do not have people in the cavity?
