At SQN we do not do 100% surveys.

Radiation Surveys

  *   Assembly is brought vertical, the traveler is opened, and the protective yellow sleeving remains installed.
  *   The 2 accessible sides are surveyed looking for the highest contact dose rate.

Contamination Surveys

  *   Smear survey on inside of traveler, sealing surface of traveler, and plastic yellow sleeving once it is pulled off the assembly.

No surveys are performed on the exposed bundle after it is removed from the protective yellow covering. The exposed assembly is never touched.

What is your stations practice for New Fuel Receipt Surveys?

STP’s current RP practices related to new fuel receipt survey of the fuel assemblies is to closely scan the entire length of the fuel assembly with less than an inch between the counter and the fuel assembly.  This practice has concerns that it increases the risk of fuel assembly damage and puts more work burden on the RP Tech.  Thoughts?
